Federer treated the home crowd in Geneva to a 7-6(5), 6-4, 6-4 victory over Simone Bolelli to give the Swiss a 1-0 lead against Italy.
The US Open men's final between Marin Cilic and Kei Nishikori drew a 1.9 rating on CBS, less than any other US Open men's final in figures dating back two decades. That represents about 2.2 million watching on television.

The Kei Nishikori upset win over Novak Djokovic for a place in the final of the US Open should prove to be a win-win situation for Japanese clothing and fashion giant Uniqlo, a short version of “unique clothing” sponsor of both players.
Both of the U.S. Open junior singles titles were won by unseeded participants on Sunday. On the boys' side, Australian Omar Jasika overcame Quentin Halys of France 2-6, 7-5, 6-1. The Czech Republic's Marie Bouzkova triumphed in the girls' event by holding off Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina 6-4, 7-6(5).
Another week, another item for the Bryan Brothers record book. In this case, one hundred titles. Pretty routinely. Granollers/Lopez actually had more winners, but they also had far, far more errors -- the Bryans officially produced only five. Hard to beat a team that plays like that.
