U.S. OPEN TENNIS SEED REPORT: ROGER FEDERER VS. ANDY MURRAY FOR NO. 2 HIGHLIGHTS BATTLE IN CINCINNATI TENNIS

U.S. Open seed report: Federer vs. Murray for No. 2 highlights battle in Cincinnati

With the U.S. Open draw being made next week, the Western & Southern Open gives players their last opportunity to maneuver for seeding at the year’s final Grand Slam. Let’s take a look from 1-32 where the battles are being waged.

 

Note: David Ferrer has not yet withdrawn from the U.S. Open, so these scenarios are assuming Ferrer stays in the tournament.

 

1) Novak Djokovic has clinched the No. 1 seed.

 

2) Andy Murray will clinch the No. 2 seed with either a final in Cincinnati, OR a Roger Federer loss at any point prior to the final, OR a semifinal IF Federer reaches the final.

 

Federer will clinch the No. 2 seed with a title, OR with a final AND a Murray loss prior to the semifinals.

 

3-4) Murray or Federer will be the No. 3 seed.

 

Kei Nishikori will clinch the No. 4 seed IF Stan Wawrinka does not win the title.

 

Wawrinka will clinch the No. 4 seed ONLY with the title.

 

5-8) Nishikori has no chance of falling below No. 5.

 

Wawrinka has no chance of falling below No. 6.

 

Tomas Berdych has no chance of falling below No. 6.

 

David Ferrer will clinch a 5-8 seed (7th or 8th) with a Rafael Nadal loss prior to the quarterfinals, OR a Marin Cilic loss prior to the semifinals.

 

Nadal will clinch a 5-8 seed (7th or 8th) with a quarterfinal, OR a Cilic loss in the third round.

 

Cilic will clinch a 5-8 seed (7th or 8th) with a Cincinnati semifinal AND a Nadal loss in the third round, OR a final AND a Nadal loss prior to the semifinals.

 

9-12) Cilic has no chance of falling below No. 9.

 

Milos Raonic has clinched a 9-12 seed (either 10th or 11th).

 

Gilles Simon has clinched a 9-12 seed (either 11th or 12th).

 

John Isner will clinch the No. 12 seed with a Richard Gasquet third-round loss, AND a David Goffin loss prior to the semifinals, AND a Kevin Anderson loss prior to the semifinals, AND a Grigor Dimitrov loss prior to the final, AND any loss by Ivo Karlovic, Feliciano Lopez, AND Tommy Robredo.

 

13-16) Gasquet has clinched a 13-16 seed unless he is passed by Goffin AND Anderson AND Dimitrov, AND EITHER Karlovic OR Lopez reaches the final OR Robredo wins the title.

 

Goffin has clinched a 13-16 seed unless he is passed by Anderson AND Dimitrov, AND EITHER Karlovic OR Lopez reaches the final OR Robredo wins the title.

 

Anderson has clinched a 13-16 seed unless Dimitrov reaches the semifinals AND EITHER Karlovic OR Lopez reaches the final OR Robredo wins the title.

 

Gael Monfils will clinch the No. 16 seed unless Dimitrov OR Karlovic reaches the semifinals, OR Lopez OR Robredo reach the final.

 

17-24) Dimitrov cannot fall below No. 19 and would climb as high as No. 12 with title.

 

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has clinched a 17-24 seed (18th or 19th).

 

Dominic Thiem has clinched a 17-24 seed (19th or 20th).

 

Karlovic cannot fall below No. 22 and would climb as high as No. 12 with title.

 

Lopez cannot fall below No. 22 and would climb as high as No. 12 with title.

 

Viktor Troicki has clinched a 17-24 seed (22nd or 23rd).

 

Roberto Bautista Agut has clinched a 17-24 seed (23rd or 24th).

 

Bernard Tomic will clinch the No. 24 seed if Robredo loses in the third round AND the Dolgopolov-Janowicz winner does not win the title.

 

25-32) Andreas Seppi has clinched a 25-32 seed.

 

Robredo cannot fall below No. 26 and could climb as high as No. 12 with title.

 

Jeremy Chardy has clinched a 25-32 seed.

 

Jack Sock has clinched a 25-32 seed.

 

Philipp Kohlschreiber has clinched a 25-32 seed.

 

Thomaz Bellucci has clinched a 25-32 seed.

 

Guillermo Garcia-Lopez has clinched a 25-32 seed.

 

Fabio Fognini will clinch the No. 32 seed if the Dolgopolov-Janowicz winner does not reach the final.

 

Leonardo Mayer will be seeded if Ferrer withdraws AND the Dolgopolov-Janowicz winner does not reach the final.

 

Adrian Mannarino will be seeded if Ferrer AND Garcia-Lopez withdraw AND the Dolgopolov-Janowicz winner does not reach the final.
