Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, and Roger Federer all are top seeds at the Cincy Open
In 2013, Roger Federer went back to clay to test out a new racket in between Wimbledon and the U.S. Open Series. This time around, however, there was no sign of the 17-time Grand Slam champion.
Roger Federer is ready for a charge into the second half of the ATP season, with the losing Wimbledon finalist set to impress as he begins play at the Toronto Masters.
Rafael Nadal is out—at least for the next two tournaments—but a strong field will still be on hand for the Rogers Cup in Toronto. Among those back in action for the first time since Wimbledon are Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, and Andy Murray.
The official draw for the 2014 Rogers Cup presented by National Bank in Toronto was conducted on Friday and hosted by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor at Queen’s Park.
Western & Southern Open defending champion Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the 2014 tournament due to a right wrist injury. Nadal has also withdrawn from the ATP Masters 1000 event in Toronto, which precedes the Western & Southern Open.
If you take a look at Part 2 of this series on the Big Four, you will see that since they first took up the first four slots on September 8, 2008 only in 2009 when Del Potro won the US Open and 2012 when Rafa was out for the last half of the year and David Ferrer had a great year has anyone else been able to pierce the 6000 point barrier.
When Andy Murray reached #4 in the world on September 8, 2008, the Big Four had arrived. Here are the top 5 year end and mid-year(after Wimbledon) rankings and the point totals from 12/25/2006 to this year after Wimbledon.

I was so depressed yesterday after Roger lost that I could hardly function during the day. I thought he could pull it off finally. He said he didn’t figure out how to return Novak’s serve until the 4th set. He seemed more at peace than I was about the loss.
The first time I saw Austrailian’s Lleyton Hewitt was during the 2000 US Open semi-finals where he played the great Pete Sampras. It was the ultimate underdog versus the great champion match up. Sampras had been proudly wearing the mantle of American tennis and was already seen as one of the greatest players of all time.
