ROGER’S RESILIENCE IS A LESSON FOR ME TO LEARN BY IRENE LEE.

It’s been a week since we all felt the sadness at Roger Federer’s loss at the Wimbledon finals. I am glad I had the opportunity to express my feelings at 10sballs.com as well as at Roger’s own website where I left some comments like his other fans.

To be honest, I could not watch the match that I had taped after I saw Roger’s tear holding the silver tray as runner-up during the trophy presentation, I deleted my recording.

After some hours, I did read some articles about the match and one article used Roger’s own words to describe how he felt after the match and that was the first bit of real encouragement I felt last Sunday. He said that he could not find a way to deal with Novak’s serve until the 4th set. But he never stopped trying even though he thought he was going to lose for a time. He also said that he knows he’s playing well and that he felt healthy and he knows he’ll try to do better with the return of serve in the future. He didn’t seem as discouraged as I was feeling and he actually seems hopeful about the rest of the year and he had just lost one of the most important matches of his career.

I learned a lot from that interview. I decided not to read any more commentary and predictions for a while from people who have never won a Slam about someone who has won 17. I will just accept Roger’s own words and his resilience that he still has it in him to win another Slam, hopefully at Wimbledon.

The grass may be dry and there is not a cloud in the sky, but the rain of victory can still come, sometimes quite unexpectedly.
