Roger Federer is ready for a charge into the second half of the ATP season, with the losing Wimbledon finalist set to impress as he begins play at the Toronto Masters.

The Swiss who turns 33 on Friday, said that a month of family holiday in the Alps has re-charged his batteries, leaving him ready to fight for his third title of the season.

“It’s been a good year overall,” said Federer, who will put his Wimbledon disappointment behind him after losing a tight five-setter a month ago to Novak Djokovic, top seed, to his own second in Toronto. “I’m happy to be healthy again and playing well. I’m enjoying myself and I’m able to play in every event I want to play after having back troubles last season.

“So here I am with nothing to lose; I’m second seed and I hope to take advantage of my draw, even if they are tough all around. I want to make sure I’m well-prepared and hope it all pays off. My game feels pretty good, the first match will be key. You want to have a good start.”

The event is without Rafael Nadal, who pulled from both Toronto and Cincinnati due to a right wrist injury which has him in a cast. “The stretch between clay and grass is a tough one. Now I’m mentally relaxed after a month off with his family of wife and four children). I feel like we’re half way through and I’m ready to attack in the second half of the season.

“I’m excited to be back and playing in Toronto after four years.”
