American men can only hope they fare better in the U.S. Open main draw with their 11 participants than they did in qualifying earlier this week. Not a single American man managed to successfully navigate through three matches and punch a ticket into the field of 128. Two Americans had advanced to the final round, but neither one could finish the task on Friday.
The early rounds at the US Open never fail to offer surprising upsets and great tennis – last year 17-year-old Victoria Duval beat former champ Samantha Stosur in round one, Lleyton Hewitt took down Juan Martin del Potro in the second, and 136th ranked Camila Giorgio whipped 6th seed Wozniacki in the third round.
It simply isn't going to feel the same. It has been years since a U. S. Open has been so affected by injury. Defending champion Rafael Nadal is out. So is former champion Juan Martin del Potro. Andy Murray is here, but he clearly isn't himself. Even Novak Djokovic seems to be a little bit off. It is clearly a wide-open field.

David Goffin saw his 25-match winning streak come to end at the hands of Jerzy Janowicz in the Winston-Salem Open quarterfinals on Thursday afternoon. Goffin, coming off three Challenger titles and his first ATP triumph in Kitzbuhel, succumbed to Janowicz 6-4, 6-4 after one hour and 17 minutes.

Here's the final installment. The draw looks very good for Federer. Djokovic, Murray, Raonic, Wawrinka and Tsonga all in the other half. Ferrer, Berdych, Monfils and Gasquet fight it out for the privilege of playing Roger in the semis after he deals with Dimitrov in the quarters.

The United States Tennis Association (USTA), in conjunction with Levy Restaurants, the official restaurant partner of the US Open, announced that the worlds best tennis action again will be complemented by one of the worlds best sports and entertainment dining experiences.
The USTA announced that world No. 1 and two-time defending US Open champion Serena Williams has been named the top seed in womens singles at the 2014 US Open. This is the third time that Serena Williams has been the No. 1 seed at the US Open.
