Novak Djokovic kicked off his title defense at the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters with the loss of just one game on Tuesday afternoon. Djokovic thrashed Albert Montanes 6-1, 6-0 in a mere 45 minutes while saving all four of the break points he faced--all in the first set.
One match doesn't really tell us what a player's form is like -- but this really seemed typical of how Andy Murray in 2014. Although the real issue here may have been how wound up he got about a particular point.
Another small but solid step toward the Top Four for Roger Federer. It's getting close to certain he'll make it; the only two players who could catch him are David Ferrer and Tomas Berdych, and Ferrer needs a final (one more win by Federer and Ferrer would need a title); Berdych already needs a title.
The score makes this look closer than it was -- Roger Federer lost only three points on serve (he won 94% of first serve points, 92% of second serve points). Ivo Karlovic did pretty well on serve, too, but you knew he was doomed if it came to a tiebreak. For a guy who wasn't sure he would play, Federer certainly looks solid...
One high profile player/coach alliance has come to a close and another looks distinctly rocky with the news that Novak Djokovic received a last minute telephone call from Boris Becker to say he wouldn’t be able to be with his Serbian charge for the Sony Open in Miami because he was about to undergo hip surgery.
Novak Djokovic will start his campaign to win the Miami Masters without the coaching services of Boris Becker as the 46-year-old German undergoes double hip surgery. Second seed Djokovic revealed the news on the eve of his opening match at Crandon Park.
Boris Becker planned reunion with world no.2 Novak Djokovic at the Sony Open has been postponed because the 46 year-old German has fallen ill.
The Andy Murray/Ivan Lendl relationship as player and celebrity coach, that set the trend for Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and several other top flight players to follow, sensationally came to an end today with the news the pair are to part after an exemplary two years that realized Olympic gold, the US Open and Wimbledon titles.
The statistics for these two were almost eerily similar. Going into Novak Djokovic's fifth service game of the third set, each had five aces, and each had put in 65% of first serves. Djokovic had won only one more point. And Djokovic had had only one more break...
Novak Djokovic is dreaming of the perfect tennis calendar - which he admits will almost surely never be realized. "In an ideal world, Australian Open can start three, four weeks later. Having one of the four grand slams right at the start of the season is a little bit too early...
Nobody knows Novak Djokovic like Marian Vajda, the long-time coach who stepped aside for something of a sabbatical this year to spend more time with his family and handed the reins over to Boris Becker. And this year he thinks patience will be required...
Boris Becker was certainly in need of some good news from afar as he sat in his Wimbledon home and watched Novak Djokovic win the BNP Paribas Open title in Indian Wells. The absent German had just lost an expensive Spanish court case that will result in a Majorcan villa he has owned for 17 years being confiscated and set to be auctioned off for a predicted 7.1 million euros...
Roger Federer did not participate in last year's Sony Open Tennis tournament and this time around he is coming off long fortnight in Indian Wells, where he finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic. Federer lost Sunday's BNP Paribas Open final 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3) after two hours and 12 minutes.

Combine the two men's events--singles and doubles--at the BNP Paribas Open and the United States arguably performed better than any other country.
