There will be three Canadians seeds in singles at a Grand Slam for the first time when the Australian Open gets underway on Sunday night in Melbourne.
So sorry to see that Bethanie had to retire. She played so well all week. She barely got a day off ! She played thru the qualifying rounds and also along the way she took out the number one seed.

Sydney wasn't the only place hit with withdrawals on Sunday. Hobart didn't lose any seeds -- but, in an outcome that probably won't surprise anyone, it did lose Venus Williams. Venus pulled out after losing her final on Saturday, replaced by Lucky Loser Silvia Soler-Espinosa.

The ITF announced today that Serena Williams of the United States and Novak Djokovic of Serbia are the 2013 ITF World Champions. Williams is named Women’s World Champion for the fourth time, while this is the third successive year that Djokovic has received the honor.
