I thought it was worth taking some time out this morning to reflect on Andy Murray’s opening gambit against Mardy Fish, who will be rounding out his career on his own terms.

Mardy Fish returns to action for only his second ATP World Tour singles match of the year. The 2010-11 Atlanta champion has announced he will play here, Cincinnati and then will retire at the US Open. He will take on last year’s finalist Dudi Sela not before 6 p.m. on Stadium Court.
Mardy Fish announced via Twitter on Wednesday that he will retire from tennis at this summer’s U.S. Open. Fish will wrap up his career with three more tournaments, a trio that also includes Atlanta and Cincinnati.
