The Australian Open "courtsiding" case has taken a new twist, with the British man accused of passing along running results of live matches being offered a full defense by his outraged London employer. Daniel Dobson, 22, is fully backed by Sporting Data Ltd, with the three-man firm correctly pointing out that their representative was doing exactly what chair umpires all over the world do on a daily basis.
On the other hand, this opens a big opportunity for Murray and for David Ferrer. Juan Martin del Potro seemed to be rather dazed by the end -- perhaps the heat got to him; he's a very big guy, after all -- and Roberto Bautista Agut played very good tennis, and it ended with del Potro the first of the top ten seeds to fall.
By contrast to Azarenka, Sharapova spent three and a half hours feeling the full burden of the heat; it's a good thing she has a day off! Karin Knapp managed to add a few points but will fall at least one ranking spot, from #44 to #45.
Today was a long one. For the first time all tourney the heat rule came into affect and pushed tennis back in to the wee hours of the night. The day concluded with 5 setters spread all over the grounds, the upset of the tournament so far was my guy Del Po going out in the 2nd rd.
