John Tomic's notoriety in tennis circles has struck again as his displeasure with Tennis Australia's youth policy has resulted in him withdrawing 16 year-old daughter Sara from the national academy program.

The 2014 tennis season may not be over quite yet, but it will undoubtedly go down as a year of incredible parity on the ATP Tour. Four different men captured Grand Slam titles, including two for the first time. Marin Cilic joined Stanislas Wawrinka as a new major champion by triumphing over fellow first-time slam finalist Kei Nishikori 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 at the U.S. Open on Monday evening.
Devastated Novak Djokovic was pondering his schedule as the beaten US Open semi-finalist and decided to skip Davis Cup play this weekend in India for Serbia after losing a 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4) 6-3 to Japan's Kei Nishikori.
Novak Djokovic vs. Roger Federer? Not exactly. The 2014 U.S. Open men's singles final will pit Kei Nishikori vs. Marin Cilic on Monday afternoon. That surprising title match became reality on Saturday afternoon when Nishikori and Cilic scored respective semifinal victories over Djokovic and Federer.
A win in Zagreb; a final in Rotterdam and now another title at the Delray Beach Open for Marin Cilic – it’s been a three week streak that has made the popular Croat the hottest player on the ATP tour this year. He has now won 14 of his last 15 matches and 18 in all – more than any other player.
This was one of those matches where it took Serena Williams a while to get warmed up for the contest. She slightly widens her lead over #2 Simona Halep, and drops Flavia Pennetta -- a semifinalist last year -- to #16. At least Pennetta still has doubles.

One of the best things about watching the galaxy of stars inter-act at the ATP Heritage dinner at the Waldorf Astoria just before the US Open was the degree to which the world No 1’s were in awe of each other.
In the first few games of this, it seemed as if Roger Federer was really struggling to deal with Samuel Groth's serve. True, Federer was having no trouble at all on his own (except for a bad moment in the third set when he was broken) -- but he didn't really seem like Roger Federer. Nonetheless, he keeps alive his faint hopes of rising to #2.
