Czech fifth seed Lucie Safarova began her week with a win over China's Peng Shuai 7-5, 6-4 while Serb Bojana Jovanovski, seeded eighth, beat former French Open winner Francesca Schiavone 6-4, 6-3.

Juan Martin del Potro couldn't do much in the first set; Djokovic was running him all over the place. But the Argentine's power started to tell as he built a 3-0 lead.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga dramatically improved his London chances here, but this means he still remains a little off the pace. Still, he has assured that he will have a chance to qualify at Paris.
This was pretty long, too (more than an hour and three-quarters), but the bottom line is, Rafael Nadal isn't giving Novak Djokovic any help at all in the contest for the year-end #1.
