In just a few hours the United States tennis open begins at Flushing Meadow in Corona Park at the BILLIE Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing New York. Wow. Sure loved the simplicity of the “Westside Tennis Club” it’s proper name or Forest Hills. It’s given name for which it resides. And by the way the old grand club celebrated its 125 anniversary the other night. Thank the tennis angels for saving the club. It looked shaky for years.
Onto BJK / NTC. What a Monumental Monday it is to be tomorrow. The night session has the most dangerous “floater” in the draw. Yup. It is Maria Sharapova. Yup. The Number two seed SIMONA Halep is the first round opponent…..
So folks the tourney is exciting already. Sorry Andy Murray had to pull out. Those old hips of his don’t like stair master type machine. I’m just saying. He used them a lot over the years… I prefer real stairs if at all.
Great to see Denis Shapovalov get thru Qualies. He would have liked a wild card, but better he did it on his own. Sorry to see Milos Raonic pull out and miss the Laver Cup as well (bad wrist). Sorry to see Stan Wawrinka gone for the year. Knee surgery.
We are happy Bethanie Mattek-Sands positive attitude has put her on the fast track to recovery. She will be doing commentating during the tourney.
This is just a quick hello from the great city of New York on the island of Manhattan. Oh, the Taste of Tennis party was fantastic. Thanks Penny and Judy! Xav and LOU see you both on Tuesday.
