Sven Groeneveld and Yibing Wu start their new collaboration today on the courts in Beijing, China. Groeneveld, who will be the head coach of the team, sees in Wu a rare talent who has the potential to be the new rising star in tennis. In an exclusive conversation with Sven Groeneveld he spoke for the first time about his new coaching arrangement:

“I was seriously considering a sabbatical until Max Eisenbud called me and asked if I was available and interested in working with a young male player, who had won the 2017 US Open Junior singles and doubles title. After doing my research and my usual scouting reports I was very excited about the prospect of working together with Yibing Wu. After being away from the ATP world tour for the past 4.5 years I am really looking forward to work with an incredible male talent and share my knowledge and experience. I will be working in close relationship with IMG Academy’s director, Rohan Goetzke, to establish and mastermind the perfect team for Yibing Wu for the coming years.“

Yibing Wu, a rising male tennis player from Hangzhou, China made history by becoming China’s first male tennis player winning the 2017 US Open Junior title. During the same week he also managed to win the boys doubles, followed by wining his first ATP Challenger Tour singles tournament in Shanghai.

The big name coach Groeneveld, who just split with Maria Sharapova in March this year has also coached many other Grand Slam Champions such as Monica Seles, Mary Pierce, Aranxta Sanchez Viccario, Ana Ivanovic and as well as male stars like Nicolas Kiefer, Michael Stich, Tommy Haas, Greg Rusedski, Mario Ancic, Andy Murray, Fernando Verdasco, Paradorn Srichaphan and many more. Besides coaching, Sven is consulting other coaches, and together with his team he runs his 25,000 coaches platform, OrangeCoach.com, connecting some of the most sought after coaches and players in the world.

After spending one month together at the IMG Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Florida. Yibing Wu and Sven Groeneveld start their first tournament in Beijing, China.
