About this project

After 260 episodes and five years of The Tennis Podcast, our downloadable tennis radio show, we are asking for your help to keep it going in 2017, and to make it bigger and better than ever.

When we recorded the first show in 2012, it was a labour of love, as it remains today – just two people with the good fortune to work in Tennis, talking about their favourite sport.

Over the years, Andy Murray, John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova and Andy Roddick joined us on the show, listeners got involved on Twitter and Facebook, and we all made rubbish predictions about what we thought would happen in tournaments all over the world.

We covered Andy Murray’s first Grand Slam title win in 2012, Roger Federer’s 17th, and Serena Williams’ pursuit of the all-time records.

David informs Andy Murray he is picking Novak Djokovic to win Wimbledon

We debated issues – what to do with Davis Cup, what to do with Nick Kyrgios, Maria Sharapova’s failed drugs test and many more.

We produced special shows about the greatest players, tournaments, matches, upsets and comebacks, we played time-machine tennis, and we asked when tennis made you cry.

We were gatecrashed mid-show by a tree, by an angry US Open bus driver, by Rosie the Dog.

And we started the much loved/hated weekly feature Poll Vault – where David excitedly posed countless inspired/inane, relevant/hypothetical, thought-provoking/unanswerable questions, and Catherine audibly rolled her eyes.

Over the past two years we produced the show weekly – published every Monday – and in 2016 we produced daily shows from Wimbledon and the US Open.

We want to keep going in 2017, but to do that, and to achieve our goal of making more shows than ever before, we need your help.

As much as we love it, the show takes a lot of time, effort, energy and expense to put together, and we can’t continue as we have been doing. A bit of advertising/sponsorship has helped a little recently, but it isn’t enough on its own in the long-term, and we are hoping that you can also pitch in.

If funded to our minimum goal of £10,000, we will continue to produce the show on a weekly basis, and we will also build an official Tennis Podcast website. As you will see from the below funding goals, we would like to do much more more than that.

FUNDING GOALS

At £10,000 – We will produce a minimum of 45 weekly tennis podcasts in 2017.

At £15,000 – We will produce a minimum of 45 weekly shows and 45 Grand Slam daily podcasts in 2017.

Beyond £15,000 – Depending on how much is raised, and how much time we have, we will look to produce Catherine Whitaker, David Law and Student Matt blogs, a Tennis Podcast shop and Periscope/Facebook Live sessions. And if we have enough, we can look at travelling to do big interviews.

Finally …

Thank you for listening to the show and for any contributions you have made here. Catherine and David

Risks and challenges

Having produced more than 260 episodes of The Tennis Podcast we are experienced in delivering the show and do not foresee any problems, health permitting.

Even when David had a minor cold (he called it flu), and Catherine lost her voice, we were able to produce the show, either delayed by a few days or with a guest.

Obviously in the unfortunate event of something more serious, this may be more problematic, but we will do everything within our power to deliver the shows as promised.
