The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) announced today the players that have earned the opportunity to compete in the second Huajin Securities WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai from November 1-6, 2016. The event features both singles and doubles and will be staged in the southern Chinese coastal city of Zhuhai.

The Huajin Securities WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai will take place at the custom designed and state-of-the art Zhuhai Hengqin International Tennis Centre. With a total prize money of over $2.2 million, the tournament is one of the most prestigious on the tennis calendar.

Among the prominent list of Zhuhai competitors are two Grand Slams champions including Petra Kvitova (2011 and 2014 Wimbledon) and Samantha Stosur (2011 US Open). Additionally, 2016 WTA Most Improved Player of the Year Johanna Konta will be making her debut appearance. Between all competitors, they represent nine WTA singles titles won in 2016. A full list of the singles competitors is detailed below.

“We are looking forward to the second edition of the WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai, showcasing some of the top athletes on the WTA,” stated Steve Simon, WTA CEO. “This event features many of our top stars who have accomplished much success during the 2016 season and now have the opportunity to compete against each other for the Zhuhai title.”

Peter Johnston, Tournament Director of the Huajin Securities WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai, remarked, “Congratulations to our 12 qualified singles players. We have an incredibly strong field of Grand Slam champions, global stars and winners of some of the biggest WTA tournaments. The unique 3 player per group round robin format will feature the best players competing in every single match. With over$USD2.2million in prize money on the line, our fans are guaranteed an amazing week of tennis and entertainment.”

Johnston added, “We had a spectacular event in 2015 and the 2016 edition promises to be even bigger and better in the beautiful city of Zhuhai!”

The Huajin Securities WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai’s 12-player singles field consists of players that are the highest-ranked after those that qualified for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global, in addition to one wildcard. The players will compete in four round robin groups of three, with the winners of each group advancing to the semifinals. The six doubles teams will be split into two round robin groups, with the winner of each advancing to the final.
