Queen's Club Tennis: The Rain Break at AEGON Championships   |

Play was scheduled to start at 1pm at the Queen’s Club. We get to the tennis at 11am on the way to the club we already know that the matches are going to be delayed.

The black cab driver thinks we are crazy for trying to watch tennis in the rain, “It will rain all day mates” why watch the weather forecasts when you have the drivers always giving you the weather report.

We turn the corner onto, “Barron’s Court Station” and the tennis fan lines are formed and just getting larger. Yes – it is still raining; men in business suits, women dressed very nicely and of course people dressed for comfort all with umbrellas but still getting wet. Everyone pushing to get through security and through the Queen’s Club gates.

We decide to watch a little bit of most matches. Verdasco vs Wawrinka in center court, which was nearly full. The British fans were loving that Verdasco was up and winning – clearly the crowd favorite.  Hitting hard and returning everything.

Lopez vs Cilic on Court 1 again for every well-played point the crowd cheered for Lopez.

Querrey vs Bautista Agut was a very close match neither player giving away any points.  Both guys serving big and returning very well. Roberto just seemed to move better and would not let the “bad line judge calls” upset him.

Clearly the British crowd prefers the Spanish players…

Donald Young vs Vasek Pospisil on court 10 has been a very interesting match. DY has stayed focused and relaxed. Not really hitting deep but keeping the ball low, which seems to be working vs Pospisil. Both guys are serving well.

The rain starts again…. This time we can see the fans grabbing umbrellas, we are standing out in court 10, we look up to the Center court and court 1 it looked as if a wall off  rain was moving towards us. We hurriedly take out our Queen’s Club umbrellas and the ball players, ball girls and umpires start heading for cover. Yet, the girl handing out FREE #strawberries&cream was still at work in the pouring rain – work dedication.

Just wondering will the rain delay let the losing players relax and rethink the way they are playing…. Or is it just more frustrating… We will ask some of the players and get back to you readers.

The scores for the AEGON Championships at the rain delay –

Lopez vs Cilic 6/4

Bautista Agut vs Querrey 7/6, 0/1

Young vs Pospisil  6/3

Verdasco vs Wawrinka  6/2, 3/4

Mannarino vs Garcia-Lopez 4/6

Bopanna/Mergea vs Benneteau/Roger-Vasselin  5/2
