On Thursday the USTA announced that the United States will face Croatia outside of Portland, Oregon in the Davis Cup quarterfinals this summer. The tie will be hosted at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center in Beaverton, not far from where the Americans beat Russian in the 2007 Davis Cup final. Additionally, the USTA announced it will build a 6,000-seat stadium around the currently existing center court at the tennis center.

This is the fourth time the greater Portland area has hosted a Davis Cup tie. The previous three were held at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum (1981, 1984, and 2007).

Team USA advanced out of the first round by winning a road tie in Australia in February. The Americans had previously lost consecutive first-round ties to Great Britain in 2014 and 2015. Croatia also prevailed on the road, beating 2015 runner-up Belgium 3-2.

The Davis Cup World Group quarterfinals will take place July 15-17.

“Portland holds a special place in U.S. Davis Cup history when we won the title here in 2007,” said Katrina Adams, USTA Chairman of the Board, CEO, and President. “We are thrilled to bring world-class tennis back to the area with Beaverton as our host and help grow the game in this community. We look forward to fans filling the stands and coming out to cheer on Team USA as we try to move one step closer to the Davis Cup trophy once again.”

“We are absolutely delighted to welcome the return of the Davis Cup back to the Portland area following the US Davis Cup Championship match hosted here nine years ago,” commented Drew Mahalic, CEO of the Oregon Sports Authority. “We look forward to hosting the most prestigious tennis event in the world this coming July and we know all tennis fans in Oregon and the Northwest will be ecstatic about the opportunity to witness the best in tennis once again.”

The USA-Croatia winner will face either the Czech Republic or France in the semifinals September 16-18.
