ACAPULCO TO HOST ATP WORLD TOUR 2016

 

Mexico’s Legendary Destination Showcases Biggest Tennis Stars at the Mexico Open

 

The world renowned Mexican city of Acapulco will host one of the 13 ATP World Tour 500 series tournaments, Abierto Mexicano TELCEL, February 22 – 27 at the Princess Mundo Imperial Hotel. Four-time Mexico Open champion David Ferrer, will enjoy Acapulco’s tourism offerings and aims to be the first player to win the Mexico Open five times.

 

“We are excited to demonstrate that Acapulco stands out for more than its landscapes and sunsets as a major hub for world-renowned sporting events,” said Pedro Haces Sordo, president of the Acapulco Destination Marketing Office. “We are supported by an excellent infrastructure that enables us to host international sport events of this magnitude and welcome such recognized tennis figures who contribute to putting Acapulco on the global spotlight,” he added.

 

Other players that will also play in the courts of the award winning Princess Mundo Imperial Hotel are Kei Nishikori, Marin Cilic and Thomas Muster The Abierto Mexicano TELCEL is one of the destination’s most important events in 2016 and it promises to bring an entertaining week in the famed city of Acapulco.

 

Acapulco has been home to international sporting events like the Mexican Gymnastics Open, ISSF World Cup Series and the Mexican Open and it is one of the favorite spot amongst tennis players. In 2007, Acapulco won the ATP World Tour award for best tournament of the year in its category. These events have contributed to the diversification of the destination’s offering, otherwise known for its classic Hollywood glamour and unforgettable sunsets.
