Third seeds Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau, the highest-remaining doubles seeds at the US Open, began their campaign for a second consecutive major with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Andre Begemann and Oliver Marach on Friday.

The Dutch-Romanian team, who captured their first Grand Slam at Wimbledon, never faced a break point en route to claiming victory in 48 minutes. They’ll next face the Czech pair of Frantisek Cermak and Jiri Vesely, who dispatched Hyeon Chung and Mikhail Kukushkin 6-3, 7-5.

Seventh seeds Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez toppled Robin Haase and Julien Knowle 6-3, 6-2 in 1 hour and 11 minutes to set up a second-round meeting against Lucas Pouille and Sergiy Stakhovsky.

In his last US Open, Australian Lleyton Hewitt kept the dream alive, teaming up with Davis Cup comrade Sam Groth to defeat Henri Kontinen and Horacio Zeballos 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Raven Klaasen and Rajeev Ram, seeded 15th, survived a tough first round match against Ricardas Berankis and Teymuraz Gabashvili 4-6, 7-6(1), 6-3, while 14th seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah fell to American wild cards Michael Russell and Donald Young 6-3, 7-6(3).

Russell and Young will face off in the third round against countrymen Steve Johnson and Sam Querrey, who survived a tough battle against Leander Paes and Fernando Verdasco. Johnson and Querrey, who ousted top seeds Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan on Wednesday, defeated the Indian-Spanish team 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in 2 hours and 2 minutes.

Eighth seeds Jamie Murray and John Peers booked themselves a third round berth with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Santiago Giraldo and Rameez Junaid. The Scottish-Australian team’s next opponents are Philipp Oswald and Adil Shamasdin, who bested Marcus Daniell and Jonathan Marray 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(3).

Also into the third round are Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut, who saved a match point in the decisive tie-break against Mate Pavic and Michael Venus, clinching the win 6-3, 6-7(9), 7-6(7). The French duo held match point at 9-8 in the second set tie-break but were unable to convert.
