Marcin Matkowski and Nenad Zimonjic booked their spot in the Western & Southern Open final, denying second seeds Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday.

Matkowski and Zimonjic survived after failing to serve out the match at 5-3 in the second set, immediately breaking their opponents in the next game. They prevailed after 67 minutes, advancing to their third team final.

This year, the Polish-Serbian tandem reached the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final in Madrid (l. to Bopanna/Mergea) and the grass-court final at Queen’s Club (l. to Herbert/Mahut).

Individually, Matkowski is appearing in his 42nd tour-level final (16-25 record) and is looking to build on a 2-6 mark at the Masters 1000 level. Zimonjic will contest his 89th tour-level final (53-35) and 28th in Masters 1000s (15-12).

They will face Daniel Nestor and Edouard Roger-Vasselin in Sunday’s final after the Canadian-French pair downed Feliciano Lopez and Max Mirnyi 7-5, 6-4 in 73 minutes. The Canadian-French team is taking part in only their second ATP World Tour event together and improves to 8-1.

Last week’s Rogers Cup finalists (l. to Bob and Mike Bryan) only faced one break point throughout and went three-for-six on break points for against Lopez, who upset Rafael Nadal en route to the quarter-finals in the singles draw, and Mirnyi, who has 48 ATP World Tour doubles titles.

Nestor will battle in his 144th individual final (87-56 record) and 47th at the Masters 1000 level (27-19). He is a four-time Cincinnati champion, with title runs in 1996, 1998 and 2004 with Mark Knowles. He also won in 2009 with Zimonjic. The final encounter is a rematch of their Montreal quarter-final meeting, won 6-4, 6-2 by Nestor and Roger-Vasselin.
