Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has pulled out the Aegon Open Nottingham, which will see World No. 7 David Ferrer and third seed Feliciano Lopez finish preparations for The Championships, Wimbledon, at the Nottingham Tennis Centre.

Also entered into the ATP 250 event in the East Midlands is World No. 13 Gilles Simon and Luxembourg’s Gilles Muller, who faces Andy Murray in the quarter-finals of the Aegon Championships at The Queen’s Club today.

Tsonga has not played since going out to Stan Wawrinka in the semi-finals of the French Open, with the abdominal injury sustained in Paris forcing him out of tournaments in s-Hertogenbosch and Halle.

Aegon Open Nottingham Tournament Director Paul Hutchins said “Tsonga is a very popular player, but with people like Lopez, Ferrer and Simon we have great depth here.

“Tsonga has had to pull out of three tournaments now in the lead up to Wimbledon and I hope he recovers well so he can take his place at The Championships.”

The Aegon Open Nottingham ATP event follows on from the WTA tournament which was won by Croatian 17-year-old Ana Konjuh on Monday.

Qualifying for the men’s event starts on Saturday with main draw action scheduled to commence on Sunday.

The Aegon Open Nottingham will see two tournaments take place in June, the women’s WTA event taking place from 6-14 June 2015, and the men’s ATP event being staged from 20-27 June 2015. Both tournaments will be an integral part of the new British grass court season, which in 2015 will see a three week window between Roland Garros and Wimbledon for the first time. The extended grass court season will enable some of the world’s elite players extra time to find their feet on grass and make the most of the best grass-courts in the country.

Tickets to the Aegon Open Nottingham are on sale now. Tickets start from just £15 for an adult and £5 for a child.
