BRAD GILBERT – ‘MADISON KEYS WILL BE WORLD NO.1 INSIDE 3 YEARS’, COACHING ANDRE, WINNING UGLY, NICKNAMES EXPLAINED

Brad Gilbert has told the Tennis Podcast that he believes the young American Madison Keys will be the World No.1 ‘in the next 24 to 36 months’.

Gilbert, one of the most respected coaches in the game and a commentator for ESPN, spent 25 minutes with Catherine Whitaker to talk about the most talented young players in the sport, his expectations for 2015, and his own coaching and playing career.

The American, who guided Andre Agassi and Andy Roddick to World No.1, and posted four wins of his own against Pete Sampras, talks about his first ever coaching session with Agassi (‘Andre told me he doesn’t practice before 2. I told him I’d see him at 9’), how he thinks Andy Murray has been adept at ‘winning ugly’, and how he comes up with his many nicknames for players.

On 19-year-old Keys, who beat Venus Williams at the Australian Open before narrowly going down to her sister Serena in the semifinals, Gilbert told the Tennis Podcast: “Madison, I believe, will become No.1 in the world in the next 24-36 months and win Grand Slams. She has that much athleticism and talent.’
