PBI HONORS THANYAPURA PHUKET WITH ITS SITE OF THE YEAR AWARD

PHUKET, THAILAND – Peter Burwash International (PBI) recently recognized Thanyapura Phuket’s reputation as one of Asia’s leading sports training facilities with its 2014 Site of the Year award.

US-based PBI, founded by former Canadian tennis professional Peter Burwash almost four decades ago, operates in more than 25 countries and sets exacting standards for its partners to meet.

The award recognizes a PBI partner property that “strives to offer the highest quality in its tennis facilities, service and programs while also demonstrating care and support of PBI and its professionals,” PBI President Peter Burwash said.

He added: “From the very beginning we recognized Thanyapura’s outstanding facilities and ambitious goals. As a result of their leadership, the tennis programs took major strides in the past year, which made it an obvious choice for this award. We are honored to be partnered with such a quality facility and exciting project.”

“The award comes on the heels of other accolades for Thanyapura, such as being named Asia’s Best Tennis School earlier this year in a survey by readers of TennisResortsOnline.com

“It is with enormous pride that I accept the PBI Site of the Year award on behalf of our team at Thanyapura Phuket,” Mr Philipp Graf von Hardenberg, Thanyapura President and Chief Executive Officer, said.” To receive two major tennis awards this year is recognition of the product we deliver and our desire to make sure it remains that way as we strive to meet our goal for all individuals to optimize their potential.”

PBI has been directing the tennis program at Thanyapura Tennis Academy since it opened in July 2011. Thanyapura recently played host to ITF Women’s Pro Challenger tournaments and a Davis Cup tie between Thailand and Hong Kong.

Several touring professionals leverage its world-class facilities including most recently, Maria Sharapova who trained at Thanyapura last month before the WTA Finals in Singapore. The state-of-the-art facilities include six Plexicushion courts, the same surface used at the Australian Open. Four of the courts are covered.

The PBI program offers coaching for junior players of all ages, private lessons, clinics and courses for adults of all abilities, weekly drop-in drill sessions, cardio workouts, tennis socials and a balanced offering of competitions throughout the year.

Thanyapura Phuket is a sports training, education and health destination set on 23 hectares of pristine land located close to Phuket International Airport as well as the resort island’s famed beaches. It utilizes a patented mind, body and soul-coaching philosophy to get the best out of people while it has assembled a team of world-class coaches, sports scientists, medical and health practitioners, physiotherapist and chiropractor.
