Surprises are starting to come on the men’s side at the U.S. Open, with David Ferrer going down to Gilles Simon and unseeded Dominic Thiem booking a spot in the fourth round on Sunday. The women’s draw, however, has been in relative shambles the entire way. And the WTA upset trend is showing no signs of stopping.

Mirjana Lucic-Baroni’s inspiring run came to an end at the hands of Sara Errani, but fellow unseeded floaters Shuai Peng and Belinda Bencic set up an all-unseeded quarterfinal showdown. Peng ousted No. 14 seed Lucie Safarova 6-3, 6-4 before Bencic toppled ninth-seeded Jelena Jankovic 7-6(6), 6-3.

Bencic, who hails from Roger Federer’s and Stan Wawrinka’s native Switzerland, is just 17 years old.

“I definitely didn’t feel any pressure because it was my first time on Arthur Ashe in the night session. So I really just tried to enjoy it. I think she had all the pressure because she needed to win. Yeah, I could just enjoy (it).”

Caroline Wozniacki also enjoyed a great day on the biggest tennis court in the world as she joined Bencic, Peng, and Errani in the last eight. The Danish star took down Maria Sharapova 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

“It means a lot to me,” Wozniacki assured. “The season for me has been a little bit up and down, and it’s so nice to kind of start feeling like I’m playing the way I want to. This hard-court season has been amazing for me. Today I just kept thinking to myself, ‘just stay in there. Try and take the initiative.’ It was really hard. The wind was blowing a lot from one side of the court. So you kind of had to adapt a lot.”

“I thought she played really well,” Sharapova praised. “She made me hit a lot of balls. That’s always been her strength. But she did extremely well today. She’s a great retriever, especially in these types of conditions. I just felt like I maybe went for a little too much.”
