Nothing is Forgotten, Nothing is Ever Forgotten-Robin of Sherwood

A legacy is made up of moments of greatness. People will never forget the moments, which have reached within their hearts and inspired their souls. They will never forget the moments which left them with goosebumps. Moments that strike our cords and blow us away we will always cherish within our hearts. A person will always be remembered how they lived their lives from within and how they used what was on the inside on whatever they tasked themself on the outside. That is their special legacy They would influence you to give your everything, inspire you to never give up, and to always have a positive attitude. You would call them your hero. You never forget heroes because you never forget how they impacted your life. They leave footprints in your life. They show you what it means to have will power and what it means to wear your heart on your sleeve.

Everybody loves a hero. Everybody needs a hero. “Courageous, self-sacrificing people. Setting examples for all of us. Everybody loves a hero. People line up for them, cheer them, scream their names. And years later, they’ll tell how they stood in the rain for hours just to get a glimpse of the one who taught them how to hold on a second longer.”-Spider-Man 2

I remember when I first saw Lleyton Hewitt on the tennis court on T.V. From that moment on, he has always been my hero. His qualities and traits of a champion, an athlete, and a person makes a great example to look up to. He has inspired greatness in his career. If you were to take the ingredients of what it takes to make a champion, a legend, and mixed it with the essence of a great person you would find Lleyton Hewitt. As my hero he inspired me that day. I was just a teenage kid in high school who always believed that I had a fire inside that burned with a great passion to never giving up. I was looking to do great things. I discovered that if I simply never gave up, lived with my heart, and believed in myself I would create this greatness from within. I started believing.

My meaning simply is, that whatever I have tried to do in life, I have tried with all my heart to do well; that whatever I have devoted myself to, I have devoted myself to completely; that in great aims and in small, I have always been thoroughly in earnest.”

― Charles Dickens, David Copperfield

Hewitt’s weapon is his iron will. The power of his human will, is unbreakable. Following Hewitt’s career has helped me try to find my own greatness within myself. To always put in the hard yards, to battle, and to keep on fighting. He taught me to always find a way, to rise and face everything. That even, if you get knocked down you just get up. He also taught me when you reach yours goals, seek improvement stay focus and stay humble. That is the way to the unbreakable heart.

Love the game. Love the game for the pure joy of accomplishment. Love the game for everything it can teach you about yourself. Love the game for the feeling of belonging to a group endeavoring to do its best. Love the game for being involved in a team whose members can’t wait to see you do your best. Love the game for the challenge of working harder than you ever have at something and then harder than that. Love the game because it takes all team members to give it life. Love the game because at its best, the game tradition will include your contributions. Love the game because you belong to a long line of fine athletes who have loved it. It is now your legacy. Love the game so much that you will pass on your love of the game to another athlete who has seen your dedication, your work, your challenges, your triumphs… and then that athlete will, because of you, love the game.”

It was Wednesday early afternoon on August 27th 2014 at the US Open in Arthur Ashe Stadium. Hewitt was faced against powerful Tomas Berdych in the first round. Hewitt knew out of the gates Tomas was going to be a challenge. Hewitt being the Battling Aussie he is thrives on challenges. If he was to go down he would go down swinging, but he stood up to Berdych and didn’t back down. In tennis on a given day anyone can play awesome, great, good, ok, or bad. Hewitt is tough to beat because he never surrenders He can be playing awesome or not that great and will never give up. He will have a positive attitude and always be believing in himself and in his abilities. He was trying to counter Berdych’s power and he was scrambling to do so in the process. He didn’t let Tomas beat him without a fight. Altough Hewitt lost he has nothing to be ashamed about. He would hold his head up high because he gave his best that day. There is an important life lesson to be learned in this situation. How could someone really ever be defeated if they give everything they have that day? The answer is you will never be defeated. The most important thing is you play with all your heart and soul and you give it all your strength. Hewitt has never been defeated by an opponent or an injury because he refuses to give up. As Hewitt lefted the Arthur Ashe arena he was given a standing ovation. Hewitt should always be given a standing ovation for what he has done in his career, for all his comebacks, all his accomplishments, all his wins, his total efforts, his grit, and for him being himself. That is his legacy. He is a legendary champion because whether he wins or loses, he holds his head high, and he represents himself and his country with his heart.

Lleyton Hewitt continues to play for the love of it. It was always his dream. To give every ounce of himself out there. It is his dream. He is leaving his footprint and legacy in the game. Lleyton said at the US Open press conference on Wednesday, “Obviously, you know, just living the dream, I guess. You grow up. Just wanted to, you know, be able to play the majors and play Davis Cup for Australia. I have been fortunate to do it for an awfully long time. “It was always going to be hard any time you want to stop, but I’d prefer them (Australia) to be in good shape rather than playing in the minor leagues every year in Davis Cup. That’s a positive. Whenever I do stop, I think it’s in good hands.”

Thank you Lleyton Hewitt for the memories, for the inspiration, and motivation. You have taught me that everytime I step on the court, or in the gym, and when I wake up each morning and go to bed each night to “Be brave when you are weak ,brave when you are scared ,and humble when you are victorious . Whatever you’re going through, with the right positive attitude, you can come out on top.”
