Day two of qualifying was completed today at the USTA Player Development Women’s $50,000 Classic in Carson, Calif. Six Americans and five of the top eight seeds in qualifying are still alive going into tomorrow’s final day of play, where four players from qualifying will advance to the main draw. The final round of qualifying will start at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Main draw singles and doubles play will also begin on Tuesday. Americans in first-round main-draw singles action tomorrow include 2012 US Open girls’ singles champion Samantha Crawford, former world No. 6 junior Louisa Chirico, former University of North Carolina All-American Sanaz Marand, and wild card Chiara Scholl.

Notable players competing in doubles include 2009 US Open quarterfinalist Melanie Oudin, two-time NCAA singles champion for Stanford Nicole Gibbs, former USC standout Maria Sanchez, former Stanford standout Kristie Ahn, and former world No. 30 Michaella Krajicek, of the Netherlands.

This tournament will be streamed live on www.procircuit.usta.com.

The USTA Pro Circuit event in Carson is taking the place for a women’s tournament in Yakima, Wash., that was faced with a fire in mid-May. The fire destroyed the host site’s clubhouse and impacted some of the adjoining tennis courts.

Carson is the second of three consecutive women’s hard-court tournaments that make up the USTA Pro Circuit’s US Open Wild Card Challenge, which will award a men’s and women’s wild card into the 2014 US Open. The American woman who earns the most WTA ranking points at two of the three USTA Pro Circuit hard-court events in Sacramento, Calif., Carson, and Lexington, Ky., will receive a USTA wild card to compete in the main draw of the US Open, which will be held Sunday, August 25, to Monday, September 8. Only players who did not receive direct entry into the US Open are eligible for the wild cards.
