TENNIS CHANNEL IS LIVE THIS WEEKEND AS LINDSAY DAVENPORT JOINS HALL OF FAME

 

With Induction, Davenport Becomes Eighth Hall of Famer on Tennis Channel’s On-Air Analysis Team

 

Telecast begins at 12:30 p.m. ET Saturday, July 12

 

Tennis Channel will offer live coverage as six-time Grand Slam tournament champion Lindsay Davenport is inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame Saturday, July 12, at 12:30 p.m. ET. The ceremony will take place at the Hall’s historic grass-court stadium in Newport, R.I., and will include four other inductees. Davenport has been an on-air analyst with Tennis Channel since 2008.

 

The ceremony will feature speeches by the new Hall of Famers and the friends or family members that the inductees have personally picked to introduce them. Tickets for the event usually sell out, with 4,000 fans in the stands and another 300 watching a live simulcast in the Hall of Fame theater.

 

Davenport is one of five individuals slated for induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame this weekend. The other inductees include five-time Paralympic medalist and first wheelchair tennis ITF World Champion Chantal Vandierendonck; famous tennis coach Nick Bollettieri; Chairman of the Board and President of the USTA Jane Brown Grimes; and British tennis broadcaster and author John Barrett, who are all being recognized for their contributions to the growth and development of the sport.

 

In addition to the induction ceremony, Tennis Channel will be in Newport for live coverage of the Hall of Fame quarterfinals, semifinals and finals.

Inductees:

 

Lindsay Davenport: A former World No. 1 professional tennis player, she is a six-time Grand Slam champion in singles and doubles. She also holds an Olympic gold medal in singles.

 

Chantal Vandierendonck: The first female wheelchair tennis player to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Vandierendonck was a three-time ITF World Champion and former world No. 1 in singles and doubles. She has won five Paralympic medals and seven singles titles at the US Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships.

 

Nick Bollettieri: Founder of the IMG Academy, Bollettieri has coached 10 world No. 1 players, including Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, Monica Seles, Serena and Venus Williams, and Maria Sharapova. Bollettieri has set the bar for tennis coaching while also developing youth tennis programs in underserved communities.

 

Jane Brown Grimes: Chairman of the Board and President of the USTA since 2007, Brown Grimes has spent the past 29 years involved with the tennis industry. Among her many contributions, she helped build a strong foundation for the Hall of Fame as well as acted as a strong leader within the WTA.

 

John Barrett: One of the game’s premier historians and authors, Barrett has had played many roles in the tennis industry, including player, broadcaster, tournament director and equipment representative. He has worked on some of the sport’s most comprehensive works, including editing and contributing to “World of Tennis.”
