– Keys is the first American to win the title since Rubin in 2003.

– Keys becomes the first teenager to win a Premier-level title since Wozniacki triumphed at New Haven in August, 2009.

– Keys now trails her head-to-head with Kerber 2-1.

– Keys defeated two Top 10 players (Jankovic and Kerber) en route to the title; her record against Top 10 players now stands at 3-10.

– With Vandeweghe winning in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, it is the first time two Americans have won titles in the same week since 2002 (V.Williams, in Antwerp, and Seles, in Doha).

– Kerber falls to 3-8 in WTA finals, and 0-2 in grass court finals; her other final on grass also came at Eastbourne, losing to Paszek, 57 63 75, after holding five match points at 5-3 in the third set.

– Keys and Kerber are projected to rise to No.30 and No.7, respectively, in the new rankings; Keys will pass V.Williams to become the third-highest ranked American, after S.Williams and Stephens.

Final Quotes

Keys: “I’m just so incredibly happy. It’s one of those things where when you’re training and you don’t want to be there, you’re tired or everything hurts, you think of this moment, and it really helps push you through all of the hard times. I’m just incredibly happy right now. I’m so incredibly honored to be another name on this trophy. To know that Chris Evert, Lindsay Davenport and Martina Navratilova have all won this, it’s just an incredible honor.”

Kerber: “It’s not easy when somebody is serving like she did the whole match, but I was trying, and I think I had some good returns, but it was tough to battle. Like I said before the match, she is really dangerous. She’s young and she has a great talent, so for sure she’ll be dangerous in the future.”
