It wasn’t a final match-up, but merely another step up the ladder that is leading to the final Sunday at Roland Garros. Today was one of those days. Yes, it was cold and windy and off and on it spit mini-drops of rain; that is, until a deluge just before closing time. As always, on the first Wednesday of Roland Garros “Kid’s Day” is celebrated and as usual the grounds were swarming with excited youngsters...

“BALLY” ELENA BALTACHA PASSES AWAY @ 30 YEARS OLD , BRITISH TENNIS FORMER #1 WAS LOVED BY ALL

Elena, who always went by her nickname Bally, was diagnosed with liver cancer in mid-January 2014, two months after retiring from professional tennis and just a few weeks after marrying Nino Severino, her long-time coach and partner. Despite a determined battle against the disease, she passed away peacefully at home with her husband Nino by her side and surrounded by friends and family.
