DONALD YOUNG JR. WINS OPENER IN FRENCH OPEN @ROLAND GARROS OVER DUDI SELA  |

Donald Young Junior wins in four sets over Dudi Sela 6-1,2-6,6-1,6-0. Not sure where the rain delays were but fairly certain they had a few. I really don’t know much about the match but we are certainly celebrating the win. The sets that ” D.Y.” Won were fast : 21 minutes , 36 minutes, 28 minutes. Wins in slams are so much sweeter. Donald is a great guy. I used to call him a great kid and he was that too.

His progress has been steady. He had a rough transition from being one of the best juniors in the world to playing against full grown men. He had the foot speed. He had the talent and eye to ball to contact. But he lacked the physical ” man strength “. He has it now @ 6 feet tall and 160 pounds of muscle. He has matured slowly but most infants born as “pre mees” do . Donald was born in July 23, 1989 so this birthday he will be 25.

Donald Young wrote: “I love my fans, especially this one! My #1 supporter since day 1! Thanks for everything mom….” To follow Donald on Instagram: donaldyoungjr

I remember the first time we had heard about him and his game. We drove over 300 miles round trip in a day to go see for ourselves. It was worth the drive and effort. What we saw was some great hands and super lefty spins. We saw a kid that has such a passion for the game. We met his mother Ilona. What a bright dear woman. So intelligent you can hear the wheels moving in her head. A great tennis mom and a great coach. It was great to see the above Instagram and Donald paying tribute to his mother. We have had some great tennis moms coaching their boys. Starts with the brilliant Gloria Connors followed by Judy Murray , Kathy Bryan and now Ilona out there in the globe trotting world of tennis. Hard to imagine that was 10 years ago. DY is currently ranked 79 in the world. Donald’s highest world ranking as a junior was número uno. We believe he can be top 10 in the ATP world rankings.

Editors note : We were so excited at Donald Young’s beautiful tribute to his mum. That we forgot his dad. Donald Young SR. is referred to as “Senior” is a really super guy. Both parents are college grads and really great tennis parents and coaches. D.Y. Travels more with mum and his pops holds down the fort in Atlanta Georgia. All share a great love and passion for the sport. Both Senior and Ilona are top local teaching pros.
