Miami

Doubles – Final: (1) Bryan/Bryan def. Cabal/Farah 7-6(10-8) 6-4

Although it was close, the Bryans never really felt like they were under threat here; they faced only one break point, which they saved, while earning five break points of their own. All through the match, it felt as if they would win it in tiebreaks if not before. As it turned out, in the second set, it was before.

Talk about being on a roll! They’ve now won Delray Beach, Indian Wells, and Miami in their current streak. They’re back on top of the doubles Race, and they’re of course firmly at #1 in the rankings. And… Mike earns doubles title #98. (Bob has 96.) Career title #100 really looks as if it will come this year.

Cabal/Farah failed to earn their second career titles, but they are making a strong bid for the year-end Championships. They continue to look like this year’s breakthrough team. Too bad it doesn’t show in their trophy cabinet.

Does anyone know if this was televised ? Was there a live feed on the computer ? Was anyone able to see this DYNAMIC DUO if they weren’t there ? The doubles that is played today is at such a high level. The doubles specialist especially. Great to watch Leander Paes or Max Mirnyi or Daniel Nestor. All over 35 and going strong. We remember when the ” Woodies ” were on their winning titles run. We had seen lots of great dubs teams. When Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde were the record holders it was one we thought would never be broken. Then comes along two boys that bounce and beat to the same tempo. Bob and Mike Bryan beat that record. They haven’t stopped for a moment. They give blood sweat and tears daily and weekly. Their beautiful wives make the travel still fun. Heck there’s another Olympics on the horizon. We applaud the Bryan’s. We applaud Esurance for tennis sponsorship. We applaud coach David McPherson. We congratulate super agent “JT” John Tobias. Team Bryan is a solid crew. Congrats and we sure wish doubles gets its proper forum. Doubles is exciting. The players are fun to watch move around the court with quick exciting points. By the way Bob probably has the best lefty serve in the world. Mike has probably one of the best return of serve shots in the world.
