Lleyton Hewitt recorded his 600th ATP win in the first round of Miami, highlighting his presence as one of the tour’s most accomplished veterans.

The win was earned through typical Hewitt battling, coming from behind for a 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Robin Haase.

Hewitt waved to the crowd and pumped his fist afterwards as if marking a significant achievement, but later admitted, “I totally forgot.”

Officials, however, were aware of the occasion and greeted him with a cake in the press conference. Hewitt, 33, is just the third active player with 600 wins, joining Roger Federer (942) and Rafael Nadal (675).

Hewitt earned his first win in 1998 and No. 500 almost five years ago.

After being reminded of the accomplishment, he acknowledged what it meant — especially after being sidelined several times with hip and toe injuries.

“Not many people get to achieve that. Not many people get the opportunity to get close to that, so it means I’ve been around for an awfully long time as well,” he said. “A few years ago, when I had the last couple lot of surgeries, I probably would have doubted I’d get to this stage anyway. I’m still grateful I’m out there and able to compete with the best guys.”

Now onto Bernie Tomic. He is recovering from hip surgery on both sides the Sony was his first tourney back and he was done in 28 minutes . He lost 0-6,1-6 to Jarkko Nieminen of Finland. How is that possible ? Obviously he wasn’t ready to return … This is the shortest match in tennis as a professional sport in history of the game.
