The Party Rock Open, a $50,000 women’s USTA Pro Circuit event in Las Vegas, is closing up after not being able to replace its title sponsorship.

The event had been sponsored by Redfoo, the Grammy Award-nominated singer from LMFAO, and boyfriend of WTA star Victoria Azarenka. Redfoo used the tournament in part as a vehicle to promote his Party Rock line of clothing based on one of LMFAO’s best-known songs.

Redfoo no longer wanted to “make a financial commitment, and when we couldn’t find another title sponsor, we decided not to play,” said Jordan Butler, the tournament co-promoter, in the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The tournament had struggled to break even since its inception in 2009. Butler, a Las Vegas-based attorney, added: “Mostly, it was a financial decision. We needed to raise more sponsorships and get more people in the stands. We were able to do that on the weekends but attendance during the week was always a challenge.”

After spending the first three years at Red Rock Country Club, host of the Adidas Development Program, the tournament moved to Darling Tennis Center in 2012 in conjunction with the partnership with Redfoo.

Darling had also been slated to host the Las Vegas Neon, a World Team Tennis franchise, before the league folded the team due to the arrest of its Sacramento-based owner on charges of financial fraud last month.

The loss of the Party Rock Open leaves Las Vegas, home of tennis Hall-of-Famers Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, without a professional tennis presence.
