Radwanska Still Thinks She Can Win A Grand Slam Event

Agnieszka Radwanska still believes she can win a major, even though she keeps falling short.

The Pole was the runner-up at 2012 Wimbledon and just shocked two time Australian Open defending titlist Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals in Melbourne but that did not have enough energy left to fight Dominika Cibulkova in the semis.

“I’m trying to work on everything to make a step forward and win a Grand Slam,” she said. “I won WTA events, even the big ones like Beijing, Miami, Dubai… but never Grand Slams so of course I’m working on it and hopefully I’ll do it one day. I think I’m not far away I think everyone in the top-10 is not far.”

The 24-year-old is also hoping she can someday get to the No. 1 spot, but the world No. 3 is way behind Serena Williams, a whopping 6,660 points. But that does not mean that she won’t have another shot at a Grand Slam title. She considers clay her weakest surface, but is excellent on grass. Last year at Wimbledon she took the toughest loss of her career when she came into the semifinals as the highest seed but was upset by Sabine Lisicki.

“If you win a tournament like Miami, you can win a Grand Slam as well,” she said. “It’s just women’s tennis, everything can change, you really have to prepare for every match a bit differently. Even when you play someone twice in two weeks, they’re still completely different matches…I was really close to No1 once before in 2012 when I made the Wimbledon final so I think if I was very close then I can still do it. Being No. 1 is very important for everyone, even for just a week so of course I’ll do everything in my power to be there.”
