December is proving to be a busy month for Rafael Nadal’s business manager Carlos Costa with the world no.1 bolstering his fortune with his popularity in South America. Now a day after the news came he made around $US 10 million for playing one week of exhibitions in the Latin continent, Nadal has committed to play the Copa Clara event in Buenos Aires.

Nadal has not played the Argentine event since 2005 when he lost to Gaston Gaudio in the quarter finals and earlier this year chose the week of the tournament to rest after making his comeback after a seven month absence in the Chilean tournament at Vina del Mar and then winning the Brasil Open title in Sao Paulo.

“After a time when I was unable to go, this year I’m going to return to the Buenos Aires tournament and I’m excited to play the Copa Claro again,” Nadal said.

Tournament director Martin Jaite, who doubles as his country’s Davis Cup captain is clearly delighted at the financial possibilities having the most popular player in world tennis committed to his event.

“We’re very happy to have Rafa, to have a world number one playing for the points in Argentina,” said Jaite.

The tournament is played on clay at the Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club from February 10 thru 16 and forms the second week of the Post Australian Open Latin American swing, which also includes tournaments in Chile, Brazil and Mexico.
