Spanish-speaking Miami will celebrate the return to the Masters 1000 event of Rafael Nadal, who skipped the date a year ago to rest after making his comeback from seven months of knew problems. The March 17-30 tournament was quick to trumpet the inclusion of the world No. 1 in their entry list.

The tournament fell flat a year ago when both Nadal and Roger Federer gave it a miss. Andy Murray eventually won the title for a second time after 2009.

Nadal went onto dominate the 2013 season, re-claiming the top ATP ranking from Novak Djokovic in early October and earning a dozen titles in the superlative comeback effort. The Spaniard aids in a statement that he’s keen to make his return to the Latin city.

“I was very disappointed that I was not able to attend last year’s tournament and am looking forward to returning in 2014. I love to play in Miami because of its beautiful location and tremendous fans support. it’s an international city, and the diverse crowds that attend the tournament create an unbelievable atmosphere. I am excited to see all my fans in Miami this year.”

The 14-time grand slam winner has yet to win the Miami title. He is currently back home in Mallorca after a lucrative exhibition tour of South America and will soon travel to Prague for a poker tournament as part of a sponsorship. Nadal’s tennis season begins the day after Christmas with the Abu Dhabi exhibition also featuring Murray, Djokovic and Stanislas Wawrinka.
