30 Is The New 20 in 10s (Tennis ). By Lou Fuller  |

30 is the new 20 In tennis. Yes, that’s right. The players conditioning , the equipment ( shoes and rackets and STRINGS ) the trainers , physios , fancy tapings , hyperbaric chambers , ice baths , blood spinning , cat scans / MRI. And who knows what else keeps them playing ?

In doubles they have the new scoring. The no ad point in every game and the third set tiebreaker. That really helps the older player with serving less . And staying in the game longer !

We spoke to the “walking tennis library and stats and info guy at the ATP. ” that would be the undisputed men’s tennis authority and ATP communications world renown GREG SHARKO. Greg told us that when the year end rankings come out that there will be 30 players in singles in the top 100 that are 30plus years old.

10sballs.com has a patch deal all set with a recently retired and soon to return to the tour player known as ” The XMAN “. Xavier Malisse is in Belgium practicing and training with a heavy heart. His mother had been ill for 3 years and passed away a year or 2 ago . His dad then took sick and it was too hard on “X ” to travel and play and constantly worry and feel the need to be there. Sadly his dad passed away last week. Xavier is a great guy and was a super son till the end. But hopefully now is his time. He plans to play singles and doubles and hopes to start back on tour as soon as Australia.

Our other favorite over 30 is Max the Beast Mirnyi. What a great year he had. Won the mixed at the US Open with Hlavackova ! And almost got into the end of the year Barclays World championship finals. He and Horia Tecau were the alternate team. Darn to be so close to the final 8 and watch all the going ons… But in typical Mirnyi fashion max took it in stride and enjoyed the event. As he sees it its all bonus round ! By the way if you are near Bradenton Florida Max has the best pizza place in the area if not one of the best in the state of Florida. It’s called “Breakpoint ” and it has this awesome wood oven. Our favorite is the vegetarian.
