Mahesh Bhupathi may soon turn his eyes to his multiple business interests. A former world doubles No.1, the 39-year-old is tiring of the tour grind.

“I’m winding down. I’m playing the weeks I can play, going to the tournaments I want to go to before I call it a day next summer,” he told the Times of India. “I might still play a tournament or two this year and then a handful next year. I haven’t yet decided which events and with whom I’ll be playing.”

Bhupathi owns 12 Grand Slam event titles, but this year he has put just as much work into forming a new international tennis premier league that will kick off in November 2014 in Asia where he hopes to recruit the likes of Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

Family matters to Bhupathi, too. He is married to former Miss Universe actress Lara Dutta and the two have a 21-month-old daughter Saira.

“I’m still competitive.” Bhupathi said. “I play to win. But now with my business interests and my daughter, I get over losses quicker. Sometimes I have a business meeting right after a match, so there’s no time to think about the losses. I still enjoy playing and competing.” He has no regular doubles partner.

Bhupathi runs the company Globosport, which also helps represent Murray’s commercial interests. Globosport works with London-based XIX Entertainment, which has been managing Murray’s commercial activities since 2007 and is run by the British entrepreneur, Simon Fuller.

Bhupathi and his wife also run a film production company.
