Donald Young Jr. In Napa Finals   |

Donald Young took a convincing win over Tim Smyczek 6-3, 6-2. Matt Ebden capitalized on easy victory over Alex Kuznetsov who appeared to be injured 6-2, 6-0. Ebden commented on his victory, “It’s important to compete at each point, at the first set I was feeling confident, once I got a couple breaks in the second set I was feeling good and it helped me move into the last set to take the win.”

Today’s featured semi-final match included four stars in American tennis. Steve Johnson/Tim Smyczek faced off against Denis Kudla/Donald Young 6-2, 6-4. Out of the four Young was the only player remaining in the singles draw. When asked how Young felt about being the last man standing in the single draw on his doubles team Young commented, “Just happy to move onto to the finals, everyone on the court was a quality player, looking forward to try to take the title tomorrow.”

Since the open of the Napa Valley Challenger volunteer “ball kids” have been on site everyday helping facilitate play. Assistant Tennis Pro Chris Kubicka is in charge of ball kid coordination and commented, “The kids have been a real asset to this tournament running smoothly, they bring great energy and excitement to the court everyday and it’s a pleasure working with them.”

USTA Kid’s day kicked off this morning with children play tennis drills and games, enjoying watching Tim Smyczek warm up and enjoying Ben & Jerry’s ice cream followed by lunch from Whole Foods. Kid’s ten and under received a free Junior USTA membership for participation.
