Stanislas Wawrinka is working this week in Kuala Lumpur to try and insure a trip for two Swiss to the ATP season-ending November final as he tries to join Roger Federer in London.

Wawrinka, who achieved a US Open semi-final is playing the first week of the ATP Asian series and hopes to solidify his position as provisional eighth in the championships field behind six-time year-end winner Federer.

Only three men have so far qualified into the eight-strong event; one is likely to go missing as Andy Murray recovers from back surgery which is almost certain to keep him off court for the remainder of the season campaign.

It’s every player’s dream to play there, it’s something big and amazing, but it’s better for me to take care of what is happening right now,” said Wawrinka, who has constructed a career in the shadow of the mighty Federer. “If I want to be there, I will need to play well and win matches, so as long as I don’t think too much, I’m sure I have chance to be there.”

The week’s rival event in Bangkok is also a venue for London hopefuls, with provisional ninth Richard Gasquet and Canadian No. 11 Milos Raonic thick in the title battle in the Thai capital.
