The Davis Cup final is getting to be a familiar place for the charging Czechs. whose two-man do-it-all team of Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek clinched a second straight final for the defending champion with a 3-0 win in Prague over outclassed Argentina.

“It’s definitely very exciting; Davis Cup means a lot, it’s special for us, for the whole country,” said Stepanek, the 34-year-old riding a tennis high after winning the US Open title last weekend with Leander Paes. “We loved so much delivering the trophy last year – it never gets old and we’d like to keep that trophy because it’s beautiful.”

Berdych was equally thrilled as he and his teammate wrapped up the tie a day early with victory in the doubles. “Everything was in the right place, we didn’t drop a serve and we were taking out chances,” said Berdych. “There was not many easy games for the opponents which was important to us because you can put pressure [by taking] your chances.

“It was all perfect,  When it was tough games we saved it pretty good with pretty tough shots. We played one of (those) very good matches we (can) play together.”

The victory continued a run of form at the O2 arena in Prague after the Czechs won their first title in three decades last November with a win over Spain, which was missing the injured Rafael Nadal. “It feels great. This competition means a lot to us and as long as we can keep our winning streak, it’s great,” said Stepanek.

“It’s an honor to play in front of a home crowd. They follow us around the world no matter where we play. This is a thank you to them for their support.
