STANFORD, CA, USA – Agnieszka Radwanska will attempt to shake off her dramatic loss to Sabine Lisicki in the Wimbledon semifinals when she takes the court for the first time since then as the top seed at the Bank of the West Classic – the first event of the 2013 Emirates Airline US Open Series.

Radwanska has had success in the Emirates Airline US Open Series before, two years ago capturing Carlsbad en route to second place in the standings. And though the Pole hasn’t won a title since kicking off her season with two straight in Auckland and Sydney, she still ranks fifth in WTA match wins this year and fourth in the Race to the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships – Istanbul 2013.

Last year’s Emirates Airline US Open Series third place finisher Dominika Cibulkova is also a likely contender. And Samantha Stosur will be looking to recapture the form that took her to the 2011 US Open title.

A lot of eyes will be on the youngest player in the draw, Madison Keys, who at 18 is the youngest player in the Top 50 and as a rising American is sure to be a crowd favorite.

Former Top 5 player Daniela Hantuchova commented on Stanford and the start of the US hardcourt season.

“Every time I’m on the court I want to give my best and the better I do in the tournaments before the US Open, the better chance I have there,” Hantuchova said.

“I love being here. It’s one of my favorite tournaments. I have so many great memories in California. I always enjoy coming back. This is a great stop for the summer to get us ready for all the tournaments in the United States. I’m really looking forward to being on the court.

Hantuchova also talked about pairing up with Martina Hingis in the Hall of Famer’s first tournament of her doubles comeback later this month in Carlsbad.

“I can’t wait. We had so much fun when we used to play together,” Hantuchova said. “She has been a huge part of my singles career as well, practicing with her all the time and all the matches I played against her. She understands the game like no other. It’s going to be a huge privilege to be on the court again with her.”

Meanwhile, at the Baku Cup, Bojana Jovanovski is back to defend her title in her first WTA event as a No.1 seed. Seeded second is the youngest player in the Top 100, 17-year-old Donna Vekic. And last year’s runner-up, Julia Cohen, is also in the field.
