British teenager Laura Robson was so upset after losing to Kaia Kanepi at Wimbledon that she walked quickly off court without waving to the crowd. She says she did so “because I lost and I was just trying not to cry.” . . .

Serena Williams was so upset with her loss to Sabine Lisicki at Wimbledon that she dismissed her Roland Garros title and 34-match win streak. “I probably couldn’t be more disappointed,” she said when asked to sum up her European  season. ..

The BBC’s Tracy Austin said: “This result is going to take a while to digest as it is certainly the shock of the decade.”. . .

Fernando Verdasco’s coach Richie Sanchez spent all Sunday  at Wimbledon listening to the singer El Fary. So after Verdasco won his fourth round match he did a dance for him. Verdasco, who is sponsored by adidas, has  close relationship with trainer Gil Reyes, who works with Adidas Player Development and used to train Andre Agassi. “He’s unbelievable person, special person for me in my life,” Verdasco said. “We had like a really close relationship.  Of course, he helped me a lot.  Is a person that I always like to be in contact with.  Help me everything:  mentally, physically, and emotionally.  . .

Poland’s Jerzy Janowicz says that in 2006 when he won his first junior title in Saudi Arabia he was offered were offered Qatari citizenship  but said no straightaway. Janowicz added that having him and  countryman  Lukasz Kubot reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals is “ magical.” They will face each other. . .

World No. 4 David Ferrer says that has adjusted to being a short player in a land of giants. “I don’t have such a large serve.  I try to combine this with how I move my legs and the rest.  I try to be coherent, consistent.  There are players who have very strong serves, and others who don’t. Then those who don’t maybe control the ball better or have more stability in the court.”. . .

Four women over 30 year old advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon  Serena Williams (31), Flavia Pennetta (31), Li Na (31) and Roberta Vinci (30). It is the most 30 year olds through to the Round of 16 at a Slam since 1994 Wimbledon. Only one, Li, survived to the quarterfinals. . . .

Jimmy Connors’ memoir has slipped off the New York Times Best Seller List. . . .

Steve Framcour,  who has been the men’s and women’s tennis coach at UW-Oshkosh for the past 23 seasons, will take over the same  roles with Lawrence University.
