Manchester City and the New York Yankees have formed a new Major League Soccer team to play in New York City from 2015, and are looking at the possibility of constructing a new stadium in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, where the US Open is played, but there has already been some opposition from local environmental groups. Yankees management thinks they can get it done anyway, but added they are looking at other options. . .

Toni Nadal, the uncle and coach of Rafa, says his nephew will play the Davis Cup playoff in Madrid next September. . .

Reports have it that ESPN has laid off some 4000 employees to raise profit margins and Business Insider said that perhaps one of the reason is because the cable giant has recently committed to spending loads money on live events, including the US Open, which will cost ESPN $70 million annually beginning in 2014. . .

CNN reports that Mononucleosis has hit tennis pros hard over recent years but the WTA and ATP don’t seem to think it’s worse in tennis than anywhere else. “Mononucleosis most commonly occurs in people between the ages of 15 and 24, which is our athlete population,” said the WTA’s Kathleen Stroia. Gary Windler, medical advisor to the ATP World Tour, added that mono “has not been of unusual concern for the players or the ATP Medical Services. Professional athletes are not immune to illnesses, which affect the general public in general. While we are concerned about and take all injuries and illness seriously, and although some high profile players have suffered from glandular fever in recent years, the incidence of this particular illness among our players in general has not been unusually high.” . . .

Yesterday we mentioned Ramsay Smith. He is the son of Hall  of Famer  Stan Smith and his amazing wife Margie Gengler Smith.
We are hoping that Ivo Karlovic is recovering from his mystery meningitis.

Patrick mcenroes wife is recovering from vocal cord surgery. Speedy recovery wishes again from the tennis community.
Bernie Tomic with Joshua Eagle . Interesting combo. Personally I think there were better choices. Josh  never came close to reaching his potential and Mr. Tomic could kick his butt easy.

Wonder why the Bryan brothers were recently spotted wearing blond long haired wigs  with headbands. It was a Borg look ?  Was up guys ?

Connors book got rave reviews from people magazine. ” the Outsider”. Jimmy we all feel like outsiders in tennis. And most of us have O.C.D.  Look at Rafa. Roger. Agassi. Vitas. Sampras . The list just goes on and on.

Between the pasta and the gelato lot of the tennis family are rolling into Paris.

Sure hope that J.M. Del Po didn’t give the Pope his germs. Walking bronchitis ?

Mono has always been around tennis. Roger had it. Ancic had it. Lots of players.

Sorry to see Andy Murray pull out of the French. But I’m certain it ill serve him well for a possible win at Wimbledon .

Tennis channel is 10 years old.  They have some great old shows on. Bring back Murphy Jensen.
