Novak Djokovic will live and learn from the three-set loss which bounced him out in the quarter-finals of Rome to Tomas Berdych as the Czech won only his second match in their series from 15 attempts.
World No. 1 Djokovic was in the process of putting the defeat out of mind – but may find it tough to forget how he was serving for victory against the sixth-seeded Czech danger-man when his play fell apart.
Djokovic will now concentrate on Roland Garros the only Grand Slam which he has not won which begins next Sunday. “It’s not the result I was hoping for but I am positive and the days go by and I will take some time off and get ready for Paris which is the most important event in the year for me,” he said.
“I know I can play well on clay and so I shouldn’t allow myself to have these drops and let’s hope it won’t happen for the Roland Garros.
“We are in a competitive sport and everyone is playing good tennis and especially the ones that are at the top – what can you do”?
Djokovic was serving for a straight-sets win over Berdych but hit the wall as the Czech slowly turned the tide amidst a complete meltdown from the top seed.
