Ivan Lendl International Junior Tennis Academy (Ivan Lendl IJTA) – led by the former No.1 player in the world and coach to U.S. Open Champion Andy Murray – launches a tournament series at World Gym Setauket (New York), featuring 11 outdoor and five indoor clay courts.

Located on Long Island, the first event of the “Ivan Lendl IJTA Junior Tour Championships” takes place May 3-5. It is sanctioned by the United States Tennis Association (USTA) – Eastern Long Island region. Open divisions include Boys 18’s and Girls 16-18’s.

The second USTA tournament is scheduled for July 12-14. An expanded field includes Boys and Girls 12-18’s. Ivan Lendl IJTA is joined by Game Set Match Academy as hosts of both events.

“Ivan Lendl IJTA opened in August 2011 and strives to provide the finest in tennis training and academics for juniors of all abilities,” says Peter Orrell, President and CEO of Junior Sports Corporation, owner/operator of Ivan Lendl IJTA.  “Our tournament series, the Ivan Lendl Championships, is a great opportunity to identify talented players while providing a competitive atmosphere for passionate players in the Northeast.”

The full-time program (grades 5-12) at Ivan Lendl IJTA is based on philosophies Lendl followed to become one of the greatest players in tennis history, highlighted by eight Grand Slams. The Academy focuses daily instruction on classic fundamentals, leading-edge biomechanics, strength training / fitness and mental preparation.

Lendl and his staff subscribe to a hands-on approach with juniors, instilling dedication, focus, hard work, motivation and overall preparation.
