The web site Tennis Abstract has been tracking how long men’s matches have taken this year and says that every completed tournament so far this year has been faster by an average of 7%, which could have something to do with the enforcement of the time violation rule. . .

Germany will go up against Serbia this weekend on the indoor red clay of the Porsche-Arena in Stuttgart without one of its best clay court players, the injured, No. 30 Julia Goerges, but still has a strong team with Angelique Kerber Mona Barthel, Sabine Lisicki and Anna-Lena Groenefeld. Serbia has former No. 1 Ana Ivanovic, Bojana Jovanovski, Vesna Dolonc and Aleksandera Krunic. . .

Andy Murray says that sharing an agent with Juan Martin Del Potro is not a problem: “I don’t see any problems with a lot of the companies like IMG, for example. There’s been times where they’ve had five of the top 10 players in the world. Yeah, you could say there’s a conflict, but they’ve done a great job with a lot of different athletes.” . . .

Janko Tipsarevic told CNN that he does not believe that doping is widespread in tennis. “I live in the belief that we are playing a clean sport. If there is doping involved, maybe there is, maybe there isn’t. But I can guarantee you that the people I’m hanging around with, none of them (are) doping.” . . .

Rafael Nadal has this to say about the French Open raising its prize money by more than 16 percent. “With this increase, being at the same level than the rest of the Grand Slams is great for the clay in general. As a European player, a player who loves clay, I think that’s a fantastic new for the future of tennis, and to make the sport bigger. I think is great what Roland Garros is doing for the tennis.
