World No. 6 Tomas Berdych has confirmed his participation for the 2013 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell, joining Spain¹s best tennis players, David Ferrer and Rafael Nadal. The Czech tennis player is set for his fourth tournament at the prestigious Real Club Tenis Barcelona after he participated in 2004, 2006 and 2009. This year¹s ATP World Tour 500 event will kick off on April 20 with the qualifiers and the final will be played on April 28.

Berdych, who entered the Top 10 for the first time in October 2006, turned pro in 2002. During his career, he has claimed eight ATP titles, although only two came on clay: in Palermo (2004) and Munich (2009). Berdych achieved the best result at a Grand Slam tournament in 2010, when he finished finalist at Wimbledon, losing to former World No. 1 Nadal in the final.

The 27-year-old Berdych had a great winter season as he formed part of the Czech team that won the 100th Davis Cup Final last year, beating Spain in a thriller, and went on to reach the quarter-finals at the Australian Open in January. Next week Berdych will play the ATP World Tour 250 event in Marseille, which is his first tournament after the marathon Davis Cup encounter against Switzerland. Berdych and Lukas Rosol defeated Stanislas Wawrinka and Marco Chiudinelli in the longest-ever Davis Cup match, an exhausting doubles rubber which lasted over seven hours.

In Barcelona, Berdych has compiled a 4-3 record. In 2004 and 2006, the Czech lost to Agustin Calleri and Albert Portas (respectively) in the second round, while he made it to the third round in 2009, losing to Fernando Verdasco. Although Berdych was set to play the tournament in 2011, he was forced to drop out last minute due to an injury.
