Paris

Singles – Quarterfinal: (1) Sara Errani def. Carla Suarez Navarro 7-5 4-6 7-5

By the looks of things, Sara Errani was lucky to have had a soft match the round before. She leaves Carla Suarez Navarro near the bottom of the Top Thirty.

Singles – Quarterfinal: (WC) Kristina Mladenovic def. (2) Petra Kvitova 6-3 6-4

There isn’t much we can say about this — we’re too busy shaking our heads. Petra Kvitova remains a weak #8.

Singles – Quarterfinal: Mona Barthel def. (3) Marion Bartoli 7-6(9-7) 6-4

The oracle at Delphi would have loved this. “If Mona Barthel faces Marion Bartoli at Paris, then (mumble) M…. Bart…. shall win.” Naturally, most people would assume that that referred to Marion Bartoli — who, after all, is higher-ranked and French. On the other hand, Bartoli didn’t have any chance to move this week. Barthel did. She should hit the Top Forty as a result of this win.

Singles – Quarterfinal: (LL) Kiki Bertens def. (6) Lucie Safarova 6-1 7-5

Once again Lucie Safarova loses the chance to rise above #18. Kiki Bertens is now right around #50.

Doubles – Semifinal: Hlavackova/Huber def. Dushevina/Medina Garrrigues 4-6 6-4 10-4

Pattaya City

Singles – Quarterfinal: (2) Maria Kirilenko def. (7) Elena Vesnina 7-6(8-6) 6-3

Maybe all that extra work the day before finally caught up with Elena Vesnina. She loses her Top Thirty hope. Maria Kirilenko is the top player left in the draw, and if she can win the title, she’ll rise to #13.

Singles – Quarterfinal: (4) Sorana Cirstea def. Anastasija Sevastova 6-3 6-0

Sorana Cirstea is finally earning points, and should rise perhaps two spots. That knocks Yaroslava Shvedova out of the Top Thirty.

Singles – Quarterfinal: (5) Sabine Lisicki def. Marina Erakovic 5-7 6-3 6-2

Sabine Lisicki is rising significantly; this should take her to around #44.

Singles – Quarterfinal: Nina Bratchikova def. Ayumi Morita 6-1 3-6 6-1

Ayumi Morita will end up around #55. Nina Bratchikova, who just fell out of the Top Hundred last week, now needs only one more win to make it back in.

Doubles – First Round: Amanmuradova/Panova def. (2) Erakovic/Watson 6-2 1-6 10-1

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Date-Krumm/Dellacqua def. (1) Chang/King 6-3 6-3

This is probably mostly about Vania King’s troubles, but still, Kimiko Date-Krumm remains Amazing in Asia.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (4) Mattek-Sands/Peer def. Bratchikova/Klepac 6-3 6-3

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Wongteanchai/Wongteanchai def. Buryachok/Solovyeva 6-1 6-1

Impressive for the Wongteanchais, considering that they didn’t even have direct entry; they were late plug-ins.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Amanmuradova/Panova def. Babos/Daniilidou walkover
